This T-shirt design was created as a fun way to represent the Polish dance group of which I am a part of, Syrenka, at Polart Adelaide, 2025.
Polart is Australia's biggest Polish cultural event occurring every three years, which Syrenka has partaken in since its inception. Having watched one of the brilliant dance concerts in Polart Sydney in 2022, I decided to join Sydney's largest Polish folk ensemble, Syrenka and have been dancing with them ever since. In 2025, I had the privilege to design Syrenka's special Polart shirt which is a long-running tradition in the group.
The design that I ultimately came up with was the "Syrenka Warszawska" (Mermaid of Warsaw, also used in Syrenka's official logo) breaking out of a beer can branded as Syrenka, with 100% Polishness in the place of alcohol. With Poles being renowned for their affinity for drinking, drinking has long been a prevalent motif in their designs, so I felt compelled to continue the tradition.
This additional design was also created for the intermediate group of Syrenka that commits to the mermaid namesake of the group and removes the alcoholic imagery.
